MONTREAL , Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China swept both gold and silver medal in men's all-around for the first time in the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal, Canada on Thursday.

Xiao Ruoteng , who narrowly missed Rio Olympic Games due to injuries, captured the crown with a total of 86.933 points.

"It indeed was very breathtaking , especially in the world championships. But I told myself just keep firmly believing in myself," said Xiao who contributed his first world title to his parents , coaches and supporters.

His teammate Lin Chaopan edged off Japanese Olympic champion Shirai Kenzo by 0.017 points to take silver.

Based on brilliant performances from Xiao and Lin, China will be quite threatening in next year's world team championships.

"It's quite difficult to win men's all-around gold. Because it requires more events to compete and more talented competitors to win ," said Chinese team manager Ye Zhennan.

Japanese two-time Olympic and six-time world all-round champion Kohei Uchimura was forced to abandon his quest for a seventh consecutive world title during qualification Monday evening after injuring his left ankle.

The 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships is being held from October 2 to 8.

Britain's economy will suffer as a result of the decision to leave the European Union despite signs in recent economic data that the impact has not been as severe as some predicted, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Sunday.

The June decision to leave the 28-country EU sent financial markets into shock in anticipation of a recession as Britain enters a years-long process of tearing itself away from its biggest trading partner and forging a new global economic role.

Sterling surged on Thursday after a stronger-than-expected survey of manufacturers offered the best signal yet that Britain's economy is performing better than many had initially feared.

Nevertheless , May predicted that the vote would damage the economy and said the government would continue to monitor economic data in the coming months before setting out its fiscal response to protect the economy later this year.

"There will be difficult times ahead," May told reporters on her way to a G20 summit in Hangzhou , China.

"We've seen figures giving some different messages in relation to the economy at the moment. I think the reaction of the economy has been better than some had predicted post- the referendum, but I won't pretend it's going to be all plain sailing."

May was accompanied by Bank of England Governor Mark Carney , who launched a monetary stimulus package last month and forecast the economy would flatline for the rest of the year, and finance minister Philip Hammond , who has signaled a need for fiscal stimulus to protect growth.

Asked for her view on the need for a "fiscal reset" - a phrase used by Hammond on a separate trip to China in July - May said the government's response was not yet set in stone.

"We will be looking at this issue," she said. "We have to take all the data into account; by the time of the autumn statement there will be more data available. We'll have a better picture of what is happening."

No date has been set for the autumn budget statement , which May said would be when the government laid out its new fiscal position. Hammond is expected to loosen the grip of his predecessor George Osborne on the public purse by pushing back a target to run a budget surplus by 2020.

BERLIN, March 1 (Xinhua) -- German referees are satisfied withthe way recent tests have gone to prevent wrong decisions infootball in the near future by using video technology.

"We're convinced that we can avoid the majority of the biggestwrong decisions in football in the future by using the videoassistant system," said the former FIFA referee and director ofofficials at the German Football League (DFL) Helmut Krug afterintensive testing in games involving youth teams.

In order to make professional football fairer, the GermanFootball Association (DFB) and the league management have recentlystarted tests in collaboration with the game' s governing body FIFAand the International Football Association Board (IFAB). From the20172018 season, the German Bundesliga will use the system inevery league game.

On behalf of the country's referees, Krug expressed satisfactionas, "recent testing has shown that we can avoid up to 75 per centof the most obvious mistakes and at the same time give support tothe referees. In future, there will be less pressure on thereferees because they know there's someone in the background readyto help."

The German league has set up a "broadcast center" in Colognewhich will be in direct contact with the referees on the pitch. While games are played additional referees located in Cologne willtake a look at live video scenes and keep the referee on the pitchupdated when a correction is needed by using six different camerapositions.

A new decision can be made within the space of ten to 40 secondspreventing therefore long stoppage to play. If the video-assistantsare not totally sure, a special supervisor will be on hand help tomake a final decision. The referee on the pitch can view the scenein question as it will be played on a small screen at the sidelinein the stadium.

There are only four situations when the video evidence will comeinto play - when it has to be decided to award a goal or not, whena penalty has to be given or refused, when the referee decides tosend off a player or when a red card should be given for a foul notseen by the on-the-pitch referee.

Several incidents in Bundesliga games have enforced theacceptance of the new system among fans, coaches and players.Recently Borussia Moenchengladbach's striker Lars Stindlunintentionally used his right arm to score a .
